Food Matters offers experience and expertise in the facilitation of participatory workshops and strategic planning events.

We support participants to feel less inhibited about sharing their experiences and expressing their feelings by working with a participatory evaluation approach that uses engaging and accessible tools and exercises for groups and individuals.

What is participatory facilitation?

Our participatory approach is based on an acknowledgement that lasting and meaningful change is more likely when the people who will be affected by a change participate in deciding what the change should be.  We make sure we really listen to, and understand, our stakeholders and participants and involve them in the design of the workshops they will be attending.

Our Facilitation Services Include:

  • Workshops: Engaging sessions tailored to meet the specific needs of participants, drawing upon a range of interactive facilitation methods
  • Strategic Planning Events: Collaborative planning sessions to define goals and strategies for community groups and movements
  • Consultation Services: In-depth discussions and appraisals to gather insights and feedback
  • Training: From nutritional workshops to movement building training, we bring a wealth of experience to our training sessions
  • Team Building Events: Designed to strengthen collaboration and communication and with the specific needs of your team / community in mind
  • Research: Comprehensive studies to gather data and insights relevant to your organisation, with a specialisiation in food systems research
  • Community Engagement: Participatory initiatives to connect with and involve community members in your projects
  • The Rose Voucher Project – designing and delivering a feasibility study and pilot schemes that tested the impact of free vouchers for people on a low income to purchase fruit and vegetables.
  • Pupils’ Voice – we listened to primary school children to understand their relationship with the universal infant free school meals programme, and learned a lot in the process.
  • Lambeth Food Partnership Remobilisationthrough facilitating online and face-to-face meetings, providing food partnership governance expertise, and signposting and sharing resources, we played a crucial role in remobilising the Lambeth Food Partnership.

“The work that Food Matters has done to help create such a strong Food Partnership alliance in East Sussex will undoubtedly be a huge benefit to all the partnerships, not just now, but in years to come.” – Liz Maynard, Rother Voluntary Action
